The Wilton Maine Historical Society
Our History
The house was built by Rawson Fuller in the 1860s, beside Wilson Stream. In 1904 GH Bass, renowned shoe manufacturer, built his 3rd and largest shoe factory on Wilson Stream. Soon after, he purchased the Fuller home to be used as a boarding house for his out of town employees. The boarding house ceased functioning in 1945, at which point it was used as a facility for hand sewers and storage.
Bass deeded the property to the Wilton Historical Society on June 10, 1987 for the purpose of housing the Wilton Farm and Home Museum. Soon after, it was placed on the National Registry of Historic Places.
Our Mission
The Wilton Historical Society’s mission is to cultivate and nurture interest and appreciation for our community’s rich history, to preserve our grand building and all of it’s amazing contents for future generations as well as taking an active role in the economic development of our community.
Our Members
Our members are dedicated caretakers of all aspects of the museum. Countless volunteer hours are spent with the upkeep of the building, landscaping the grounds, maintaining the archives and preserving artifacts.
Meetings
Monthly meetings, open to the public, are held on the second Thursday of the month, April through November. Our guest speakers are popular with members and the local community alike. We welcome new members so please join us!
